Landscape Condition of Essential Connectivity Areas, CA

May 8, 2018
This item is included in Data Basin, but has not been added to the DRECP Gateway.
Description:
This layer shows Landscape Blocks (core ares) and Essential Connectivity Areas (linkages) of California, represented by the condition (intactness) of the landscape.

It was created from the following three datasets:

General Natural Landscape Blocks of California, https://databasin.org/datasets/82747c9c37a14a4f93c7e2e15fe7fe3c
Essential Connectivity Areas of California, https://databasin.org/datasets/4f6cd2c4e5b4461e9de63e7f7eb2a67a

Landscape Intactness (1 km), California, https://databasin.org/datasets/e3ee00e8d94a4de58082fdbc91248a65

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) commissioned the California Essential Habitat Connectivity Project because a functional network of connected wildlands is essential to the continued support of California's diverse natural communities in the face of human development and climate change.

The California Energy Commission funded the model of landscape intactness, which provides an estimate of landscape condition, based on the extent to which human impacts such as agriculture, urban development, natural resource extraction, and invasive species have disrupted the landscape across the State of California. Intactness values are high in areas where these impacts are low.
