How is the Gateway Organized?

The DRECP Gateway is powered by web computing and runs on your computer using popular web browsers  like Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and later versions of Internet Explorer (version 9 and above). No download of proprietary software is required, making the system easily accessible from any location with an internet connection.  The system is built around several different content types, including:

  •

Groups are created by members to collaborate, negotiate, or conduct peer review around spatial data. Groups can be public or private. Browse DRECP Groups

  •

Galleries are created to share spatial information in a cohesive collection. They are very useful for creating a digital atlas and organizing a set of related datasets and/or maps. Browse DRECP Galleries

  •

Maps are created in the system and are comprised of basemaps, one or more datasets, and drawings if you choose. They can be kept private, shared with selected individual or groups, or open for anyone to see. Browse DRECP Maps

  •

Datasets are individual spatial layers usually created using GIS. They can be visualized and analyzed in the Gateway and, in most cases, downloaded for use in desktop GIS software. Browse DRECP Datasets

Under the Create drop-down menu on the homepage, you can perform four different tasks

  • Create a Map—Opens up a blank viewer page to which you can then select your own background, add datasets, and drawings. Learn How to Create a Map
  • Import a Dataset—You can import your own spatial data or establish connections to external, public datasets (web map services) into the system. With datasets you own, you can set your own use conditions (Creative Commons is the default), and manage permissions as you would like – keep it private to yourself, make it available to select individuals, make it available to one or more groups, or make it public. It’s entirely up to you. Learn How to Import Your Own Data
  • Create a Group—You can easily create your own working group to organize content and work together with others. Learn How to Create and Use Groups
  • Create a Gallery—The DRECP Gateway contains several galleries of content that have gone through various levels of review. A Reviewed Gallery is a Gallery reviewed by the Renewable Energy Action Team (REAT) agencies. REAT consists of California Department of Fish and Game (DFG), the California Energy Commission (CEC), the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). A Contributed Gallery is a Gallery contributed by members of the DRECP Gateway. Learn How to Create a Gallery
